DNA testing

MALMED carries out DNA tests, with results that are usable in a court of law. We are the only centre in Malawi that does this and we do it in collaboration with our sister office in Johannesburg. Our service has been running since August, 2013.

For DNA testing for potential court cases, the following are required from all individuals to be tested:

  1. Cheek swabs taken by our staff
  2. Two certified copies of passport size photographs
  3. Original and certified copies of identity documents (e.g. passport, driving licence etc).
  4. Two certified copies of birth certificates.
  5. Completed consent form, which we provide. Information required on the consent form includes demographic details (date of birth, race, district, nationality), and mobile and email contacts.
  6. An appointment for a consultation at our office in Blantyre. The whole consultation, including sample collections and documentation takes less than two hours.
  7. Payment of 4,910 South African Rands (ZAR 4,910), payable in MWK (Malawi Kwacha) or U$D (United States Dollars) or ZAR (South African Rands).

For DNA testing for purposes of private information only, the following are required:-
